The Offa Descendants’ Union, ODU, under the able leadership of Alhaji Muideen Olaniyi Azeez-Salako, last week held a security meeting with heads of all the security agencies following a wave of theft and vandalism of electrical installations by hoodlums in Offa and its environment.
The union has noted with dismay the criminal activities that have largely targeted transformers, where single-core and up-riser cables worth millions of naira were carted away.
In the last few months, over 10 transformers were reported to have been vandalised within the Offa metropolis.
This development had become quite alarming and worrisome, considering the discomfort and economic loss to the community.
As a result, ODU is partnering with security agencies in Offa to reintroduce the neighbourhood watch/surveillance system, which will involve the vigilante group and other volunteers within society, The vigilante group will be operating between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. every day. ODU has perfected a plan to meet the requirements involved in the smooth takeoff and will continue to finance the operation.
ODU urged the public to cooperate with security agencies by informing them about any suspicious movements or activities in their areas. The union also reminded the vigilante group of the need to be more dutiful, disciplined, courageous, and patriotic in their dealings.
