The Refereeing Development Committee of the Nigeria Football Federation has suspended centre referee Abdul Malik from officiating in the Nigeria Premier Football League.
Malik incurred the wrath of the committee following his poor handling of the Nigeria Premier Football League match-day 27 encounter between Katsina United and Abia Warriors
The referee cancelled a legitimate goal scored by Samson Obi of Abia Warriors leading to their eventual 2-1 loss at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium. The NFF has clamped down on poor officiating in the NPFL this season with sanctions on erring match officials.
Meanwhile, in the only NPFL match on Monday, Niger Tornadoes put an end to Shooting Stars’ six-game unbeaten run, handing the Oluyole Warriors a 2-1 defeat at Ahmadu Bello Stadium, Kaduna.
The match-day 27 encounter lived up to expectations with both teams fighting hard to secure maximum points.
Shooting Stars took the lead through in-form Christian Pyagbara nine minutes before the break. Pyagbara has now scored four goals in his last four league outings for the Ibadan side.
Tornadoes, who are fighting hard to escape relegation, rallied to win the match in the last 14 minutes.
Clinton Japhet equalised for the home team in the 76th minute while Ikenna Ofor grabbed the winning goal deep into stoppage time.
Tornadoes moved out of the relegation zone to 14th on the table with 33 points while Shooting Stars remained 8th on the log with 40 points.
