The Nigeria Football Federation, NFF will officially unveil Finidi George as the substantive Head Coach of the Super Eagles on Monday in Abuja.
NFF Director of Communications, Ademola Olajire, revealed this in a statement.
He said the occasion would be witnessed by Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Enoh, Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Tinuke Watti, NFF President, Ibrahim Gusau and General Secretary, Dr Mohammed Sanusi, among others.
Finidi, who passed up an opportunity to coach a second-tier team in Spain to return to Nigeria and lead two-time CAF Champions League winners, Enyimba, won the Nigerian elite division title with the People’s Elephant last season.
The club is also in the running to retain the title this season, with six matches to go.
The former Ajax of Amsterdam star formally resigned as Enyimba head coach a few days ago, with the club third on the NPFL table on 53 points from 32 matches, four adrift of table-toppers Enugu Rangers and three off second-placed Remo Stars.
The 52-year-old spent 20 months as assistant to former Super Eagles coach, José Peseiro from 2022 to 2024 and was part of the team that finished second at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in February.
As a player, Finidi was capped 62 times by Nigeria at senior level during which time he won the AFCON gold, silver and bronze medals while also playing at the US ’94 and France ’98 FIFA World Cups.
The coach has the immediate task of picking maximum points from the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying matches against South Africa and Benin Republic in June.
