United States authorities are investigating the helicopter crash near the California-Nevada border that claimed the lives of Access Holdings Plc’s Group CEO, Herbert Wigwe, his wife, son, and former Nigerian Exchange Group Chairman, Abimbola Ogunbanjo.
According to National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) member Michael Graham, witness reports suggest rain and wintry conditions at the time of the crash.
Graham mentioned that the crash also resulted in the deaths of two crew members.
Officials are currently at the crash site gathering perishable evidence.
The investigation will meticulously examine all evidence to determine the probable cause of the accident.
The crew, consisting of a pilot in command and a safety pilot, operated the flight under Orbic Air LLC as a Part 135 charter flight.
While there are no details on the passengers, Graham noted that names will be released through the coroner’s office without specifying a timeframe.
The NTSB will delve into various aspects, including the helicopter’s airworthiness, maintenance, structure, operations, meteorology, and air traffic control.
Parties involved in the investigation include the FAA and Orbic Air LLC, with the possibility of other parties being named as the investigation progresses.
