The Senate, in its session on Thursday, issued a directive to the Police Service Commission and the Nigeria Police Force, instructing them to include a minimum of 10 candidates from each of the 774 local government councils in Nigeria as part of their annual recruitment processes.
This decision, stemming from a motion presented by Senator Emmanuel Udende Memga representing Benue North East, emphasizes the importance of adhering to the Federal Character Principle in the recruitment of constables within the Nigerian Police Force.
Furthermore, the Upper Chamber not only endorsed this directive but also mandated the Committees on Police Affairs and Legislative Compliance to oversee and ensure its implementation.
In addition to this development, a bill for an act proposing the establishment of the National Assembly Budget and Research Office achieved a significant milestone by passing the second reading during the Thursday session.
Sponsored by Deputy Senate President Senator Barau Jibrin, the bill aims to furnish the National Assembly with objective, timely, and non-partisan analyses crucial for making informed economic and budgetary decisions if eventually enacted into law.
