After spending a week receiving medical care at Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital, Ado Ekiti, the eight recently rescued kidnap victims, comprising five school children and three staff of The Apostolic Faith Group of Schools, Emure Ekiti, were discharged on Sunday.
The victims, who were abducted on their way home from school along the Emure-Eporo Road, spent six days in the kidnappers’ den before being released last Sunday.
Dr Oyebanji Filani, the state Commissioner for Health, expressed joy at the successful rescue and treatment, emphasizing the government’s commitment to the well-being of the victims.
Speaking at EKSUTH during their discharge, Filani highlighted the collaborative efforts of various teams from the teaching hospital in ensuring the victims’ proper treatment.
The Chief Medical Director of EKSUTH, Professor Kayode Olabanji, had previously assured the government of providing necessary medical attention before their discharge.
Dorcas Ojo, the grandmother of three of the school children, expressed gratitude, noting that her survival would not have been possible if the kidnappers had not released her grandchildren.
The government now plans to facilitate the return of these individuals to their community.
