Both major labor centers, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC), were also present.
In the wake of the meeting, Joe Ajaero, the President of the NLC, asserted that the planned nationwide protest scheduled for February 27 and 28 remains on course, emphasizing the constitutional responsibility of the labor unions to ensure a peaceful rally.
Earlier, the Federal Government had appealed to the NLC to reconsider its protest plans, citing significant progress in addressing the union’s demands.
The Minister of Information, Muhammad Idris, highlighted the government’s fulfillment of most of the labor union’s demands after the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting on Monday.
However, the NLC stressed the need for the government to implement agreements with Organised Labour and address the escalating economic challenges in Nigeria, encompassing rising inflation, food inflation, forex crisis, economic hardship, and the high cost of living triggered by the removal of petrol subsidy.
Despite government pressure against the planned strike, the NLC reiterated its commitment to the proposed nationwide protest, emphasizing that its members won’t be deterred from expressing their concerns.
