Barrister Olumide Akpata, a former President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), has successfully secured the Labour Party’s candidacy for the upcoming gubernatorial election in Edo State, scheduled for September 2024.
The announcement of his victory was made by the Returning Officer, Ikechukwu Emetu, who is also the Deputy Governor of Abia State, at the Bishop Kelly Pastoral Center on Airport Road, Benin City.
Akpata garnered 316 votes, surpassing other aspirants in the presence of a sizable crowd of enthusiastic Labour Party supporters.
In response to the outcome, Mr. Akpata expressed gratitude to his supporters and party members for entrusting him with this opportunity.
It is noteworthy that prior to the election, Akpata had communicated his concerns to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), expressing apprehension about the potential deviation from due process during the Party’s Ward Delegates Congress and primary.
