The Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP) has issued a stark ultimatum, threatening to stage a protest without clothing if there is no substantial improvement in the welfare of its members in the near future.
NUP National President Godwin Abumusi, addressing journalists at a news briefing in Abuja on Friday, emphasized that this unconventional move aims to garner global attention to the dire situation faced by pensioners in the country.
Beyond the prevalent issue of delayed pension payments in Nigeria, pensioners contend that their monthly stipends are insufficient for sustenance.
The recent surge in the cost of living, exacerbated by the petrol subsidy removal and the floatation of the naira, has further intensified their challenges.
Abumusi, highlighting the perplexing predicament of pensioners, called for a comprehensive review of the national minimum pension.
He also advocated for the inclusion of pensioners in the proposed minimum wage review for workers by the Federal Government.
