The Super Eagles of Nigeria will face the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon in the Round of 16 of the African Cup of Nations on Saturday.
The fixture was confirmed after the Cameroonians rounded off the group stage with a pulsating 3-2 victory over the Gambia on Tuesday night.
The Indomitable Lions finished Group C with four points behind Senegal while Guinea who lost to the Teranga Lions 2-0 also qualified for the knockout stages as one of the best losers.
In the game played at the Stade de la Paix, Cameroon scored twice with time ticking away to snatch a dramatic win that kept them in the competition while eliminating the Black Stars of Ghana.
In an amazing finish in Bouake, Ebrima Colley scored in the 85th minute to put Gambia 2-1 sparking wild celebrations in the standa.
But the Indomitable Lions kept fighting and Joseph Gomez conceded an own goal to make scores 2-2.
It still was not enough for Cameroon to go through but a powerful header from Christopher Wooh in added time won the thrilling game 3-2 for the Indomitable Lions ensuring they finished second on 4 points behind Senegal having scored more goals than Guinea.
In Group D, the Palancas Negras of Angola also advanced to the last 16 as winners following their 2-0 victory over the Stallions of Burkina Faso on Tuesday.
Mabululu and Zini gave them a 2-0 victory over Burkina Faso on Tuesday.
Angola went ahead in the 36th minute when Egypt-based striker Mabululu scored with a near-post header from Fredy Ribeiro’s free-kick delivery.
Angola made sure of the points in the 92nd minute when Zini got the second goal.
There was another massive shock in the other group game as former champions Algeria crashed out of the tournament after losing 1-nil to Mauritania.
Captain Mohamed Dellash Yaly scored the only goal of the game in the 37th minute for the underdogs, who will take one of four places reserved for third-placed finishers in the group stage.
Action continues in the Africa cup of Nations on Wednesday as the Brave Warrior of Namibia take on the Eagles of Mali while Bafana Bafana of South Africa face the Carthage Eagles of Tunisia in Group E.
In Group F, Tanzania will battle the Democratic Republic of Congo while Zambia confronts Morocco.
The matches will conclude the group stage of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
