The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) Comptroller General, Wura-Ola Adepoju, has revealed that the production of green passports will take approximately two weeks from the application points.
This information was shared by Adepoju and the NIS Deputy Comptroller General, Kemi Nandap, during a press briefing on Wednesday.
Adepoju further announced that starting from March 8, 2024, Nigerians will have the convenience of renewing their travel passports without the need for human contact.
Nandap reported that the NIS has received over 46,000 applications since the commencement of the passport application process automation on January 8, 2024.
Highlighting the flexibility of the system, Adepoju mentioned the provision for changing data on the portal for passport applications.
Addressing concerns about job security for immigration officials, she assured that the automation’s objective is to enhance efficiency, user comfort, and national security, not to jeopardize employment.
To prevent non-Nigerians from obtaining the green passport, Nandap stated that collaboration with key stakeholders such as NPC and ALGON is underway.
This collaboration is essential, considering that Nigerians typically need to visit their local government to obtain a certificate of indigeneship.
