La Liga president Javier Tebas expressed his desire for Manchester United’s on-loan forward, Mason Greenwood, to continue his football journey in Spanish football beyond his current stint with Getafe.
Greenwood’s move to Getafe in September, originally intended to be a temporary measure after an internal investigation at Manchester United, has sparked discussions about his future.
Initially, Manchester United hinted that Greenwood might not play for them again, but recent comments from the club’s new co-owner, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, have opened the door to reconsidering this decision.
Tebas, addressing reporters after the Financial Times Business of Football Conference in London, emphasized his legal background and refrained from passing judgment on Greenwood.
He clarified that the 22-year-old had been found “innocent,” rather than charges being dropped.
While acknowledging Greenwood’s impressive performance with seven goals and five assists in 25 appearances for Getafe this season, Tebas mentioned La Liga’s ongoing investigation into a complaint by Getafe regarding an alleged comment made by Real Madrid’s Jude Bellingham towards Greenwood during a match on 1 February.
Tebas stated that if a player had “not been condemned,” La Liga should not conduct a trial.
The investigation involves a lip-reading report, and despite media reports suggesting Greenwood’s desire for the investigation to be dropped, it remains unresolved.
Tebas also praised Bellingham as the best English player in the current La Liga landscape during the FT event, highlighting his impactful presence.
