Afrobeats Star, Favour Obele, otherwise known by his stage name, Rela, was hosted on the eleventh edition of Profiling’s interview session tagged Hint A View: Honest Session With Rela on Twitter Space on Tuesday night, August 1st, 2023.
In the hour-long conversation graced by multiple followers of the singer and his team, Rela made some honest revelations about his upbringing, what inspired his new release, Fadekemi, his opinion about each of Nigeria’s biggest Afrobeats songsters as well as his life outside the art of music.
The England-based artist in the energetic conversation with Profiling’s handler, Sam George Mac, attributed the theme of Fadekemi Remix, his most recent piece, to a feeling of nostalgia he felt about some of his ex-lovers.
Fadekemi itself, according to Favour, is an embodiment of all the beautiful women who were once a part of his adventurous life. In his expression, the name Fadekemi symbolizes these women.
The Afro-fusion tune which accommodates two of his colleagues in the UK Afrobeats scene, the individuals known as Nheeyo the Hype and Tiana Virgo, is a blend of Nigerian signature Afrobeats with a fragment of Caribbean Dancehall delivery.
Favy Rela touched on the making of the new jam; he flew to Yaba area of Lagos to record Fadekemi, and returned to the UK with the hope of earning a collaboration from the hypeman, Nheeyo and the songstress, Tiana; both whom he had got acquainted with beforehand.
Taking his listeners through his creative growth in the industry, Rela revealed he started the pursuit of art as a church drummer, going about different cities in Lagos, beating the drum sets. At some points, he mentioned he took on the job of a disc jockey before finally deciding to make music a staple.
In the conversation, Rela was intermittently questioned by fans about his personal life. Some of these questions includes whether he smokes or not, if he ever considered quiting music, how to tell if a lady loves him etc.
Questioned about making the romance aspect of music a forte and not tapping from the depth of other themes available to push with music, Rela opined that music, for him, is always inspired by experience, hence, he doesn’t find it gratifying singing about what he has not experienced before.
Asked about Burna Boy, Wizkid and Davido; Rela firmly stated he shares equal affection and respect for each of the trio.
However, one of the biggest highlights of Profiling’s Honest Session With Rela, is the singer’s declaration of continuity; Rela would follow Fadekemi up with two other singles before the year grinds to a halt.
Simultaneously, as his excited fans rejoiced on the Twitter Space, he made it known that his team would be treating them to a listening party back at home in Lagos this weekend.
