Political parties and their various Governorship candidates in Taraba State have been charged to calm their supporters, and desist themselves, from possible actions that can trigger unrest in the State.
A civil society organization, Taraba Democrats Forum gave the charge in a statement signed by its Coordinator, Musa Maji in Jalingo on Monday.
According to the group, Tarabans who spent their time on the queue under the sun throughout Saturday deserve peace and rest of mind, all entries for violence must be resisted.
Thus, election winners’ supporters and Governorship candidates still expecting expecting final declaration are admonished to kindly take results in good faith, or consider constitutional redress at Election Tribunals for the sake of peace and tranquillity, rather than inciting, or engaging in violence.
“We have being reading a lot comments on the social media and even also unfortunately press statements from political parties calling for cancellations of elections in some areas, spreading falsehood, pointing accusing fingers and calling on their supporters to be at alert. We want to warn against these antics that can disrupt the peace in the State.
“Our attention has being draw to the New Nigerians People’s Party, NNPP press statement calling for cancellation of results and accusing the INEC officials of electoral fraud, we advise them to compile their evidences and approach the Election Tribunal and allow peace for the sake of all Tarabans.
“We commend INEC and all security operatives – the Nigeria Police Force, DSS, the Nigerian Military, NSCDC and other security agencies for the joint efforts to conduct peaceful and fair elections across the country, even in areas considered as dark spots.
“We should desist from alterations, public arguments, activities, intimidation and social media comments that can trigger crisis, particularly as Tarabans are currently anxious mood awaiting the outcomes of the elections,” the statement added.
The group equally called on INEC to hasten the collation and release of Governorship election results without delay, saying such timely process will shut the space against fabrication and assumptions.
