The Agricultural and Rural Development Secretariat of the Federal Capital Territory Administration confirmed a disturbing incident on Sunday, revealing the looting of its warehouse in Dei-Dei by FCT residents, driven by economic hardship.
Zakari Aliyu, the spokesperson for the ARD Secretariat, shared details, stating that the Secretary had visited the warehouse earlier, witnessing widespread looting and vandalism.
The residents had not only emptied the store but also caused damage by removing roofs and windows.
In response to this unfortunate event, FCT Minister of State, Mariya Mahmoud, and the FCT Mandate Secretary, Agric Secretariat, Lawan Geidam, are scheduled to visit the facility on Monday.
During this visit, more comprehensive information regarding the incident is expected to be provided.
On a related note, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) issued a statement through its Press Unit, signed by Manzo Ezekiel.
The statement denied reports of looting at NEMA’s warehouse in Abuja, expressing sympathy for the affected warehouse owners.
The Director-General of NEMA, Mustapha Habib Ahmed, has taken proactive measures by instructing the reinforcement of security at NEMA’s zonal offices and warehouses nationwide to prevent any potential security breaches.
