The Deputy Governor of Edo State, Comrade Philip Shaibu has charged Asue Ighodalo, the People’s Democratic Party and the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC before a Federal High Court in Abuja over the party primary held on 22nd of February, 2024.
Shaibu is seeking an order of the Court nullifying the Edo State Governorship primary election which took place at Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium Benin-City on the 22nd of February, 2024 where Ighodalo emerged as the Governorship Candidate.
The Deputy Governor through his Counsel, Doyin Awoyale SAN is also seeking an order of the Court directing the INEC to withdraw the Certificate of Return issued to Ighodalo as, according to him, the exercise was unlawful and contradicted the provisions of the Constitution of the PDP and the Electoral Act.
He is further seeking an order of injunction restraining the PDP candidate from parading himself as one, pending the determination of this suit by the court.
He also sought an order of the court mandating the PDP to conduct a fresh Governorship Primary Election for the Nomination of the Governorship Candidate for the Party ahead of the September 21, 2024 Governorship Election.
