Nigeria won two more medals at the ongoing Africa Senior Weightlifting Championship in Egypt on Tuesday as Edidiong Umoafia claimed two silver medals.
Competing in the 73kg men’s category, the 2022 CommonwealthBronze medalist lifted 144kg in snatch and 170kg in clean and jerk with a total of 314.
The two silver medals have taken Nigeria’s medal haul at the championship to 8.
Recall that Rafiatu Lawal won three gold while Adijat Olarinoye claimed three silver medals on Tuesday.
Nigeria’s participation at the championship will be rounded off on Wednesday morning when Joy Eze Ogbonne competes in the 71kg women’s category.
The Africa Senior Weightlifting Championship also serves as a qualifying tournament for the Paris 2024 Olympics.
Nigerian weightlifters will participate in the final qualifying campaign in March from the 31st to the 11th of April 2024 in Phuket, Thailand.
