The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has announced its proactive response to the prevailing food crisis in the country, revealing plans to distribute seized food items nationwide.
CSC Abdullahi Maiwada, the National Public Relations Officer, highlighted that the distribution would occur only after the items undergo rigorous certification to ensure their suitability for human consumption.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, Maiwada explained that this initiative aims to alleviate the hardships faced by Nigerians and enhance accessibility to essential food items.
The NCS expressed its commitment to facilitating the direct disposal of forfeited food items to the Federal Government, reinforcing the dedication of Comptroller General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, to advancing President Bola Tinubu’s food security agenda.
Additionally, the NCS has launched a strategic anti-smuggling operation and engaged the public in its efforts to prevent the unlawful exportation of crucial food resources for individual economic gains.
This multifaceted approach underscores the organization’s commitment to addressing the immediate challenges of food scarcity and reinforcing national food security measures.
