The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has unveiled the lineup of teams set to participate in the football event of the 2024 African Games.
Nigeria’s men’s and women’s Under-20 teams, the Flying Eagles and the Falconets, have secured automatic spots for the prestigious competition.
Scheduled to take place in Ghana, the 2023 African Games, the 13th edition, will unfold from March 8 to 23 across Accra, Kumasi, and Cape Coast.
The men’s football event will showcase the eight quarter-finalists from the CAF U-20 Africa Cup of Nations, Egypt 2023, alongside host country Ghana.
Additional participating nations include Benin, Congo, Gambia, Senegal, South Sudan, and Tunisia.
Having secured a third-place finish at the 2023 U-20 AFCON in Egypt, where they defeated Tunisia 4-0 in the third-place match, the Flying Eagles are geared up for the challenge.
Meanwhile, the Falconets earned their place by reaching the fourth qualifying round of the 2022 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Costa Rica.
Joining Nigeria in the women’s category are host Ghana, Cameroon, Ethiopia, Morocco, Senegal, Tanzania, and Uganda.
The Falconets, aiming to defend their title, which they clinched in Morocco in 2019, will be part of a competitive field, while Burkina Faso claimed gold in the men’s event.
