The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has cautioned the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Kayode Ariwoola, for allegedly delving into politics.
Bulleting Nigeria recalls that expressing joy that the Governor of his state (Oyo), Seyi Makinde, had continued to support Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers in the coalition of five governors, now known as the G5, Ariwoola recently joked that Makinde was being held to ransom by Wike by threatening to take back his sister (Makinde’s wife), an indigene of Rivers State, from the Oyo governor.
This Day Newspaper also quotes Ariwoola showering praises on Wike.
Recall that Wike is at loggerheads with Atiku Abubakar, the presidential flag-bearer of the PDP.
“Our party is worried that such partisan comment by the CJN is in violation of his Oath of Office as the head of the country’s judicial arm which is expected to be impartial and non-partisan,” PDP’s statement issued by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, reads.
“Irrespective of the circumstance or situation, the CJN is expected to be circumspect at all times and avoid partisan actions and utterances that are likely to erode the institutional integrity of the judiciary and bring it to disrepute especially as the nation prepares for the 2023 general election.”
