The Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike has pledged to support the presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, (NNPP) Rabiu Kwankwaso during his campaign in Rivers State.
Bulletin.ng reports this is coming after southern Governors initially agreed that the presidency should be rotated on the basis of North and South.
However, Wike who invited the NNPP presidential candidate to inaugurate the Mgbutanwo Internal Roads in Emohua Local Government Area of the state, said Kwankwaso is a friend and a man of integrity.
Wike further stated that he was one of the few people that met Kwankwaso, who was a former PDP member, not to leave the party because he knew he was an asset to the PDP, especially in Kano State.
He said, “I remember when I went to meet you in your house in Abuja to plead with you not to leave the party (PDP) because I knew you were an asset to the party. Even when they told me to leave you alone, I refused.
“I have known you and I know you are a man of integrity so I want to say that whenever you want to campaign in Rivers State, I will provide you with all your logistics, just let me know when you want to come.”
Recall that last week Thursday, Wike also pledged to support the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, with logistics for his campaign in the state, after describing Obi as a man that had all the characteristics to lead Nigeria.
Meanwhile, for months, Wike and four other PDP governors known as the G5 have demanded the resignation of Iyorchia Ayu as PDP national chairman as a precondition to support the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.
While Wike and his allies have not been seen to campaign for Atiku, it is not clear whether they will support Kwankwaso; Obi; or Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the contest for Aso Rock’s top job which has been described by analysts and keen observers as a three-horse race.
