Team Nigeria has won its first gold medal at the African Athletics Championships in Douala, Cameroon after Chukwuebuka Enekwechi set a new record with a throw of 21.20 meters to clinch the men’s shot put event.
He completed a hat-trick of African Championship titles, having won in Asaba and Mauritius, and is now tied for the most gold medals by a male Shot Putter in the history of the Championships.
Nigeria is represented at the championships by 40 athletes, 20 male and 20 female, competing in 20 events.
Nigeria last won the Championships in 2012 in Porto-Novo, Benin Republic.
