The Honourable Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Enoh has tasked the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, to look for a top-class foreign coach for the team.
Recall that the NFF announced a few weeks ago that it will appoint a foreign Technical Adviser following the Super Eagles woeful performances in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and Benin Republic.
Enoh said the new coach must have a personality that can command the respect of the players and ensure the team qualifies for the 2026 World Cup finals.
However, the minister insists it is the responsibility of the NFF to pay such a coach.
He said the Federal Government alone cannot continue to fund sports in the country and as such he is exploring other options like the private sector, wealthy Nigerians as well as crowd funding to boost the financial base of sports.
The NFF is expected to appoint the new coach before the Super Eagles’ next competitive game in September.
The three-time African Champions will be taking on a yet to be decided opponent in a 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.
The draw for the qualifiers will be held in Johannesburg, South Africa on the 4th of July.
