African champions, Banyana Banyana of South Africa set up another mouth-watering clash with the Super Falcons of Nigeria after brushing aside Tanzania 4-0 on aggregate in the qualifiers for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games women’s football event.
South Africa, who made the second leg a mere formality after beating Tanzania 3-0 away in the first leg, confirmed their superiority over their opponents with a routine 1-0 victory in the second leg in Johannesburg Tuesday evening.
Former African Footballer of the year, Thembi Kgatlana netted the only goal of the game in the 58th minute to secure an easy passage for South Africa into the final round.The victory sets up another huge clash with the Super Falcons of Nigeria who defeated the Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon 1-0 on aggregate.
The qualifiers continue on Wednesday with Morocco hosting Tunisia while Zambia welcomes Ghana.
The home teams in the ties have the advantage as Morocco defeated Tunisia 2-1 in Tunis while Zambia beat Ghana 1-0 in Accra.
Only two teams will qualify to represent Africa at the Olympics.
