The Rivers State Police Command is investigating an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) detonation that occurred near Hotel Presidential in Port Harcourt on Tuesday, according to an official statement.
The command’s spokesperson, Superintendent of Police (SP) Grace Iringe-Koko, announced in a statement released on Saturday that one male suspect had been apprehended in connection with the incident.
Iringe-Koko urged residents to remain calm, assuring that police detectives were actively pursuing leads to identify the sponsors and perpetrators behind the explosion.
The command has launched a comprehensive investigation to determine the cause and circumstances surrounding this unfortunate event, she stated.
“We have identified one individual in connection with the explosion and urge residents to remain calm. We are working tirelessly to gather crucial information and shed light on this situation,” Iringe-Koko said.
The police spokesperson emphasized that security measures had been heightened to ensure the safety of both residents and visitors within the state.
“We appreciate the public for providing information, pictures, and videos to assist our ongoing investigation. If anyone sees any suspicious object, they should evacuate the area immediately and promptly notify the police,” she added.
Iringe-Koko also urged the public to cooperate with law enforcement and report any suspicious activities related to the incident.
