The Nigeria Rugby Football Federation has explained why the national team failed to make a significant impact at the ongoing African Cup Sevens championship in Mauritius.
Competing at the Labourdonnais Stadium, the Nigerian team began the tournament with a promising 34-14 victory over Madagascar.
However, their performances dipped in subsequent matches, suffering a 25-0 defeat to Kenya and a 24-5 loss to Mauritius, which led to their early exit from the championship.
The Rugby Federation said the team battled hard despite both captains being injured and the team still gelling together.
It also said some newly joined players have shown promise, while others are still adapting so the future is bright.
The Federation’s statement highlights the challenges faced by the team, including injuries to key players and the integration of new members.
Despite these setbacks, there are positive signs, with some new players showing potential.
It remains uncertain whether the Nigerian team will be able to participate in the second round of the championship.
