The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has reiterated its directive to telecom operators, emphasizing the necessity for telephone subscribers to link their National Identification Numbers (NIN) before February 28, 2024.
Dr. Aminu Maida, the Executive Vice Chairman of the NCC, conveyed this message during the NCC’s Special Day at the 45th Kaduna International Trade Fair.
Speaking through Reuben Mouka, NCC’s Director of Public Affairs, Maida underscored the critical importance of linking NIN to SIM cards for national security reasons.
He maintained that the deadline of February 28th for telecom operators to deactivate subscribers who have not linked their NIN to their SIM remains in effect.
Maida highlighted the alignment of this directive with the commission’s commitment to promoting local content development in the telecom industry, a theme resonating with the ongoing trade fair.
Additionally, he emphasized the NCC’s dedication to safeguarding consumers’ rights, ensuring satisfaction, and creating an environment for affordable and equitable telecom services that contribute to the nation’s economic growth.
As part of the consumer-centric initiatives, Maida mentioned the establishment of the Telecom Consumer Assistance, Resolution, and Enquiries (TELCARE) Desk at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.
This desk serves as an additional platform for customers to make inquiries, receive assistance, and facilitate the resolution of telecom consumer complaints, enhancing the overall customer experience.
