Tech Giant, Google unveils AI-Powered Google Maps
This is said to fuse billions of street view and aerial images to create a digital model of the world.
It also layers information on top of the digital model, such as details about the weather, traffic and how busy a location may be.
The company also announced that a new feature called “glanceable directions” is rolling out globally on Android and iOS in the coming months. The feature lets you track your journey right from your route overview or lock screen.
“With glanceable directions, you can track your journey right from your route overview or lock screen. You’ll see updated ETAs and where to make your next turn — information that was previously only visible by unlocking your phone, opening the app and using comprehensive navigation mode,” said Google.
According to Techeblog, unlike Street View, Immersive View lets you take a virtual tour of various locations, whether it be a museum or coffee shop. Move the time slider to see what certain areas look like at different times of the day and weather conditions.
Neural radiance fields (NeRF), a cutting-edge artificial intelligence method that converts 2D images into 3D representations, enable these lifelike recreations. With the aid of this technology, Google is able to faithfully replicate a location’s whole environment, down to the lighting and objects in the backdrop. By just lifting your phone while on the street and searching with Live View enabled, Google Maps combines AI and AR to help you find locations like ATMs, restaurants, ballparks, movie theaters, and metro stations.
Immersive View fuses Google Street View and aerial images to craft a digital 3D model of an are. The digital model includes layers of information laid over a user’s surroundings and provides contextual information such as weather, traffic conditions, and how busy a location is.
Google Maps’ AI-powered Immersive View feature has just launched been in London, Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco and Tokyo.
