Super Eagles coach Finidi George is confident that Nigeria will beat the Squirrels of Benin Republic in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Benin Republic in Abidjan, Cote D’Ivoire on Monday.
The Super Eagles are in a very difficult position having dropped to the 5th in Group C following a disappointing 1-1 draw with Bafana Bafana of South last Friday in Uyo.
Nigeria’s World Cup hopes hangs in the balance after playing three draws in all three games so far buy the Eagles will go top of the group if they win today’s game.
Finidi insists the team is very much aware of their position in the group and what they have to do to het victory.
He said the players want to go to the World Cup and they have resolved to give their all in every game going forward.
He lamented the opportunities missed against South Africa on Friday as it was a game Nigeria should have won but he said they have put that behind them.
Finidi revealed that the Super Eagles have resolved not to look too far ahead in the race to qualify for the World Cup and take it one match at a time so the focus is on the Chettahs of Benin Republic.
Lesotho currently top Group C with five points followed by Rwanda in second on four points.
Benin Republic are third also on four points same as South Africa are in fourth.
The match between Benin Republic and Nigeria kicks of at 5pm at the Felix Houphouet-Boigny Stadium in Abidjan
