Nigerian sensation, Ese Brume became the first Long Jumper, male or female, to win four titles in the history of the African Athletics Championships, when she leapt to victory at the 2024 event in Douala, Cameroon on Sunday.
The African Record holder who has dominated since winning her maiden title at the 2014 edition in Marrakech, Morocco, made history in 2018 when she became the first athlete to win three consecutive titles in the Long jump and was aiming for a fourth title in Douala after missing the 2022 edition.
The African Record holder trailed defending champion Marthe Koala of Burkina Faso until her last attempt when she soared 6.73 meters to claim an unprecedented fourth gold, displacing Koala who jumped 6.72 meters.
Danielle Norte got the bronze with a leap of 6.44 meters.
The second Nigerian in the event, Prestina Ochonogor placed 4th with a mark of 6.28 meters.
