Enugu Rangers have emerged champions of the 2023/2024 Nigeria Premier Football League season after a 2-0 victory over Bendel Insurance at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium on Sunday.
Kenechukwu Agu opened the scoring for Rangers in the 32nd minute while Chidiebere Nwobodo struck in the 65th minute as the Flying Antelopes won their 8th league title with a game to spare.
The win took Rangers to 67 points from 37 matches giving them an unassailable 5-point gap on second-placed Remo Stars on 62 points with Enyimba 7 points behind on 60 points.
Remo Stars lost 2-1 to Sunshine Stars in Akure with Chinedu Nwosu bagging a brace for the home side while Enyimba were beaten 2-1 by Sporting Lagos at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena.
Despite the win, the Noisy Lagosians are still in the relegation zone in 17th spot on 46 points as fellow strugglers Bayelsa United defeated 3SC 2-1 in Yenagoa to occupy the 16th position also on 46 points but with a superior goal difference.
Sporting Lagos have a goal difference of minus 4 while Bayelsa United have zero.
Gombe United and Heartland have been confirmed relegated.
In another match played on Sunday, Abia Warriors beat Akwa United 2-0 in Umuahia.
