First, let me start this by extending my condolences to the family of the late minister of the gospel Sammie Okposo. I know this is a trying time and more of articles, gossips and news about the late singer will still be around for a while. The man Sammie came, saw and conquered. His works will live on as well as his name.
However, from the timing of his death, the situation and previous incidents, bulletin.ng can authoritatively say that the church has a hand in the death of Sammie Okposo.
And we are not the only one that thinks so, even Dr. Abel Damina think so too. While addressing a congregation of believers, he said: “I went on social media just to see many people saying RIP RIP, and what came to my mind is the cruelty of the church, the wickedness of people that are in churches.
Not too long ago, the man was in a situation and what the church did was beat him up, scandalize him, announce him, barter him, wound him, cancel his meetings, stopped him from performing in their churches without even telling him, shut him down, delete his number, as far as they are concerned he is now satan.
The only organization on earth that wounds its wounded is the church. A brother does something wrong, a sister does something wrong instead of them to come around and give comfort, restoration, and support.
They take and throw him out and everybody batters and then not too long after he dies and they say what a loss! A loss indeed right, but you were the people that killed him because what kills a man fast is rejection.”
The church i.e the people in church isolated and left Minister Sammie Okposo to face his battles alone.
Even if you want to rebuke you rebuke in love. Even though we are all sinners. Anyone without sin should cast the first stone.
You rebuke, you correct, you support and you strengthen.
This kind of situations has played out and continues to play out everytime. I remember a church where I once worshipped in Lagos. One of the pastors has a troubled marriage and The wife left him. While that is going on, the church suspended him. As a pastor he sits in front but while on suspension he must sit in the congregation. Ofcourse they must make an example of him. They don’t want any member to think it is good for their wife to leave them. They must set a good precedent for their members and he must be the scape goat no matter what he is going through and his state of heart and mind.
Quickly the members became curious and started asking questions. Different gossips started flying and when the man couldn’t have it anymore he quit.
Apostle Paul said of the church, its job is to love. And love covers multitude of sins. When a man breaks your standard, don’t say he fell. That word alone is dehumanizing and depressing.
No church on earth is the way to eternal life, no pastor anywhere is the gate-keeper to eternal life. Jesus is the way to eternal life. All the church needs to do is provide comfort, correct and not judge. However Apostle Paul has stated what we should do in Romans 15:1 We who are strong ought to bear with the failings of the weak and not to please ourselves.
