Taiwo Awoniyi, returning from an injury sustained in November 2023 during a Super Eagles’ World Cup qualifier, scored Nottingham Forest’s lone goal in a 2-1 home loss to Arsenal on Tuesday.
Awoniyi, previously instrumental in Forest’s victories over Arsenal, entered the match at halftime and found the net in the 89th minute.
Gabriel Jesus and Bukayo Saka had earlier scored for Arsenal.
Despite the loss, Arsenal is now just two points behind league leaders Liverpool with 46 points.
In another Premier League clash, Elijah Adebayo’s hat-trick and Chiedozie Ogbene’s goal propelled Luton Town to a convincing 4-0 victory over Brighton.
