Women’s 100 meters hurdles World Record holder, Tobi Amusan underlined her readiness for the Paris 2024 Olympics when she clinched her fourth consecutive national title in the women’s 100 metres hurdles event at the Athletics Federation of Nigeria National Olympic trials at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City on Monday.
The 27-year-old clocked 12.78 seconds and was way ahead of her competitors in a one-sided final.
The victory continued Amusan’s dominance having swept to victory at the Olympic trials in Lagos in 2021 before winning twice in Benin in the last two years.
Adaobi Tabugbo finished second in 13.33 seconds while Faith Osamuyi was third with a time of 13.36 seconds.
On Sunday, 21-year-old Favour Ofili clinched the women’s 100 meters title and automatic qualification for the Paris Olympics when she clocked 11.06 seconds to finish ahead of Olayinka Olajide, who came second in 11.37 seconds, and Justina Eyakpobeyan in third.
Kanyinsola Ajayi won the men’s 100-meter with a time of 10.14 seconds.
He beat Alaba Akintola who clocked 10.16 seconds to finish second and Usheoritse Itsekiri, who finished third.
Elsewhere, Chukwuebuka Enekwechi won his fourth consecutive men’s shot put national title.
He only needed three attempts to hit 21.37 meters which was insurmountable by his opponents.
