In a recent press conference held on Friday, Bayer Leverkusen’s head coach Xabi Alonso provided insights regarding Victor Boniface’s playing status.
Alonso disclosed that Boniface will be absent from Saturday’s upcoming home game against Hoffenheim.
However, he assured that Boniface is expected to return to the squad for the midweek clash against Fortuna Düsseldorf. Boniface’s absence stems from a groin injury sustained during his time with the Super Eagles camp preceding the 2023 AFCON tournament.
The anticipation of Boniface’s return is met with enthusiasm, as his presence could significantly bolster Leverkusen’s pursuit of their inaugural Bundesliga title.
The 23-year-old forward has notably contributed with 10 goals in 16 league appearances under Alonso’s management.
Furthermore, Boniface’s impending comeback carries positive implications for the Nigerian national team, the Super Eagles, who are preparing for the resumption of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers in June, with a crucial match against South Africa on the horizon.
As Leverkusen currently sits atop the league table with 70 points, enjoying a comfortable 10-point lead over Bayern Munich, Boniface’s return holds promise for the club’s continued success in the Bundesliga campaign.
