Nigeria’s Super Falcons began their campaign at the Paris 2024 Olympics Football event with a 1-0 lose to Brazil in Group C Thursday night.
The South Americans scored the only goal of the game in the 37th minute through Gabi Nunes following a brilliant through pass from Veteran forward, Marta.
Minutes earlier, Marta thought she had given Brazil the lead when she had the ball in the net but the Video Assistant Referee ruled it out for offside in the build up.
Nigeria had chances to score before and after Brazil’s goal but poor finishing and great saves from the goalkeeper denied them.
The Super Falcons who made a return to the Olympics after after 16 years will next play Spain on Sunday before taking on Japan in their last group game.
In the other Group C encounter on Thursday, Spain came from behind to beat Japan 2-1.
In other matches, France beat Colombia 3-2 in Group A; while Germany spanked Australia 3-0 in Group B.
The United States of America also thumped another African representative, Zambia 3-0 in Group B.
