Nigerian side, Sporting Lagos Football Academy have emerged winners of the 2024 Gothia Cup in Sweden after thrashing Japanese outfit, FC Tokyo 4-0 in the final at the Gamla Ullevi Stadium on Saturday.
It was the first appearance of Sporting Lagos Academy in the international Gothia Cup which began in 1975 and features Football Academies from across the world.
The young Sporting Lagos Academy players were brilliant throughout tournament and beat fellow Nigerian side, Beyond Limits Academy 5-4 in a thrilling semi final encounter.
It was the only game in which they conceded goals.
In the final, Sporting Lagos opened scoring against FC Tokyo through Yusuf Abdullahi in the 9th minute before Babatunde Akomolede extended the lead in the 19th minute.
The Nigerian side then scored two more goals in the second half to seal their status as champions of the B-17-E category of the Gothia Cup.
