The Super Eagles who lost 2-1 to Benin Republic on Monday are 4 points behind the Cheetahs, Rwanda and South Africa who all have 7 points.
Lesotho who have 5 points are fourth in the group while Nigeria stay 5th with just 3 points from 4 matches.
In other matches played on Tuesday, Sudan thrashed neighbours South Sudan 3-0 in Group B.
Angola drew 1-1 with Cameroon while Cape Verde edged Libya 1-0 Libya in Group D.
Morocco walloped Congo 6-0 away while Zambia lost 1-0 to Tanzania in Group E.
Gabon beat the Gambia 3-2 in Group F while Kenya held leaders Cote d’Ivoire to a goalless draw and the Seychelles lost 3-1 to Burundi.
Mauritius defeated Eswatini 2-1 in Group G while Comoros thumped Chad 2-0 away in Group I as Madagascar and Mali settled for a goalless draw.
