The Cheetahs of Benin Republic blew Group C of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers wide open after a surprising 1-0 victory over leaders, the Wasps of Rwanda on Thursday at the Felix Houphouet-Boigny Stadium, in Abidjan, Cote D’Ivoire on Thursday.
Benin Republic who are managed by former Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr scored the only goal of the game in the 37th minute through Dodo Dokou.
The result means that Benin and Rwanda are now tied on four points from three matches although the Wasps are currently top of the Group on superior goal difference.
In other matches played on Thursday, Guinea Bissau and Ethiopia Guinea settled for a goalless draw in Group A while Egypt beat Burkina Faso 2-1.
In Group B, Sudan defeated Mauritania 2-0 away while Senegal and the Democratic Republic of Congo played out a 1-1 draw as Libya defeated Mauritius 2-1 in Group D.
Guinea stunned Algeria 2-1 away in Group G while Mali and Ghana ended their game 1-1 in Group I.
Elsewhere, Malawi beat Sao Tome and Principe 3-1 in Group H.
Action continues on Friday in the World Cup qualifiers with several matches across Africa.
In Group C, the Super Eagles of Nigeria will face Bafana Bafana of South Africa at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo.
Nigeria, currently fourth in the group, need a win to go top.
Meanwhile, Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno has bought all regular tickets to allow football loving Nigerians troop into the stadium for free to cheer the Super Eagles to victory.
The match comes up at 8pm.
Zimbabwe will take on Lesotho in the other Group C match at 2pm.
Angola will face Eswatini in Group D while Morocco host Zambia in Group E.
African champions, Cote d’Ivoire are up against Gabon in Group F while Kenya square up against Burundi.
Mozambique will battle Somalia in Group G as Uganda lock horns with Botswana while Madagascar tackle Comoros in Group I.
