Ayodele Fayose Resigns From PDP

Ayo Fayose, a former governor of Ekiti State, has declared his resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP), which is the biggest opposition group.

Fayose made his PDP resignation announcement yesterday while a guest on an ARISE News program. Under the PDP ticket, Fayose presided over Ekiti State as governor from 2003 to 2007 and again from 2011 to 2015.

However, his decision to leave the party appears to be related to what he believes to be intractable divisions inside the PDP that, in his opinion, have split the party.

“Let me say this, from today(yesterday) I stay off PDP. In party politics, there are certain facts you must be able to speak. I am 62 and I can’t, at this age, begin lying. When something is wrong with your family, confess.” He said.

The former governor, who asserted that over the years, he had worked for the party’s interests, attributed the PDP’s defeat in the presidential election to the party’s leadership.

He claimed that the PDP had already splintered before the election due to the large number of candidates who felt they had been duped by the party’s leadership and Atiku Abubakar’s failure to strike a deal with the G-5 governors.

Fayose attributed the PDP’s problems to the North-West Zonal Congress, which he claimed was staged to favour Aminu Tambuwal over Rabiu Kwankwaso and cause the latter to defect from the party.

“I warned Atiku that the problem will consume PDP. I told him there was danger ahead,” he added, adding that the G-5 governors had requested that Atiku declare his intention to serve only one term in office and transfer the presidency over to any southern member, but that Ayu was leading Atiku to Golgotha.”

Peter Obi, the candidate for the Labour Party and the second-place finisher in the presidential polls, was cautioned by Fayose to “run away from the PDP” since the current support for the opposition has nothing to do with the PDP.

He claimed that the PDP should have offered Obi the party’s ticket if they had truly believed in him.
